Back-to-School

Your Favorite Back-to-School Treat is Back-in-Style

With the kids going back to school, it’s hard to say what the mood in your house is. But whether your kids love or hate being in school, dessert is always the proper response.
Imagine this: your kids aren’t adjusting well to their back-to-school schedule. They’ve been in a mood for days, and the thought of entertaining them yourself is stressing you out to no end.

What’s the solution? Chocolate, obviously. Everyone feels better after eating chocolate, whether it’s you or your kids. Lucky for you, our Whitser of the Month is a lovely concoction entitled Death By Chocolate

This instant cure for your children is a blended experience of Chocolate Custard, Brownie Batter, and Chocolate Cake Crunch. You might not want to give this Whitser to your little ones right before bedtime, they may be too wired to sleep for school the next day.

Be warned: The Death by Chocolate Whitser is only available for the month of August. If you wait until September, you’ll get the S’mores Whitser. While we still highly recommend it, it is, of course, not completely made out of chocolate.

Now, imagine this: Your kids are adjusting great to being back in school. In fact, they’re tackling learning like it’s their only care in the world. You’re immensely proud and think they deserve a treat for their hard work.

What’s their reward? A Whit’s classic: The Dirty Worm Sundae.

Your children’s reward is Vanilla Custard smothered with Cookies ‘n’ Cremè bits and Gummy Worms. If you want to give them an extra special treat, ask for some rainbow sprinkles on top. Just trust us on this one.

And for our high school and college kids, we know school is tough. If you need to come get a custard cone and cool off, we’re here for you. Or try the coolest Whitte of the Month EVER, Key Lime Pie. A delicious Sugar Cookie with Key Lime Custard, rolled in Graham Crackers.

Plus, some of our locations offer a student discount with a student I.D. This doesn’t apply to all of our locations, however - just make sure you ask!

We make healthy, sweet.

Gluten-Free, Vegan, and Sugar-Free Options At Your Local Whit’s

Just because you can’t eat certain things doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy Whit’s Frozen Custard. We know what it’s like to have dietary restrictions, but ice cream (or frozen custard, in our case) would be a crime to have to be rid of. But don’t worry, you don’t have to say goodbye to your favorite dessert just yet.

Gluten-Free

Great news: our vanilla and chocolate flavors are naturally gluten-free; just be careful what you get on it. While many of our toppings are gluten-free, not all of them are safe for our gluten-free friends. To be safe, feel free to ask your server to check the gluten-status of your favorite toppings.

But can you get anything besides our plain (and amazing) ole vanilla and chocolate? Of course!

Many of our Flavors of the Week are gluten-free, including our popular Black Raspberry Chip, Sea Salt Caramel, and Pumpkin Spice. For a full list of our gluten-free Flavors of the Week, check here

Vegan

Depending on the store, either oat milk or coconut milk replaces the dairy in our vegan frozen custard. For specific flavors, toppings, and cones, please check with your local store.

Many of our stores throughout eight states offer vegan options to our frozen custard, but not all. For a complete list of which stores offer vegan options, follow this link.

Sugar-Free

We totally understand not wanting extra sugar in your body - even though it may taste amazing. Lucky for you, Whit’s offers a no sugar added frozen custard at select stores. You can find those specific stores here. To be safe, make sure you check with your local store for daily availability.

Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee against cross-contamination, despite being as careful as we are. To ensure the best experience, please inform your server of your dietary needs.

Frozen Custard in the Winter?

Who’s Judging You For Winter Frozen Custard? Not Us

The weather is wacky - snowstorms in the north, temperatures around freezing in parts of the south. It’s that gross point of winter where it feels like there’s no end in sight.

Well, we can’t help you with that, but we can help lift you out of that funk the cold, gray days are plummeting you into. Here’s a look at our winter flavors to help you through to spring.

Whittie of the Month:

Cold in the north, hot in the south? Get the best of both worlds with the monthly Whittie: two fresh-baked cookies surrounding our premium Whit’s Frozen Custard.

February - Reese’s Pieces. Two chocolate chip cookies sandwiched around a scoop of our signature vanilla custard and rolled in Reese’s Pieces. It’s timeless - seasonless, even. While we can’t guarantee it’ll warm you up, you’ll definitely feel happier after it’s finished.

March - Chocolate Covered Strawberry. Two double chocolate chip cookies surrounding chocolate covered strawberry custard, because who said you have to leave chocolate covered strawberries in February? The same people who said winter isn’t for cold treats, probably.

Flavor of the Week:

While we have some flavors at all times, there are others that come and go weekly. Our Pumpkin Spice only shows up in the fall, and our Chocolate Covered Strawberry is making a special appearance for the week of Valentine’s Day.

Now, the custard is still cold, obviously. It is frozen custard, after all. But who’s to say you can’t enjoy a cold treat in the cold months? Definitely not us.

And to our stores in the south, congratulations on never having to hear about how it’s ‘too cold’ outside for ice cream. You’ll never know what a blessing that is.

Not just serving scoops...

autism speaks

The only thing that rivals David Berlin’s passion for serving the best frozen custard is his passion for serving his local community. Since the opening of Whit's Frozen Custard of Fort Mill in 2019, owner David Berlin has been committed to dishing up great custard but also committed to actively looking for ways to contribute to his community in a meaningful way.

American Cancer Society

One of the organizations that David has chosen to support is the American Cancer Society. This has been an extremely relevant and personal choice for David and the Whit’s family, as David’s mother recently lost her battle with lung cancer.

autism speaks

Autism Speaks is another organization that David has chosen to embrace and support, as there are several staff members currently working at the Fort Mill location who are on the spectrum. Whether through their partnership with Fort Mill High School and the Pink Out Restaurant Wars or their participation in Spirit Days benefiting Team Lucas in the local Autism Speaks Walk, David and his team display daily what it means to support your community and lead by example.

As an organization, Whit’s is extremely proud of David and the Fort Mill franchise for investing in the lives of those in and around their community. We take great pride in our product, which we believe is the BEST and FRESHEST frozen custard around. However, we take even more pride in our franchise owners who realize that the people we serve make it worth the hard work and we realize our customers and communities ultimately make our success possible.

'Tis the season!

Candy Cane Whittie

What comes to mind when you think about the Christmas season? For us, we can’t help but think about all the delicious holiday flavors that make an appearance in our stores this season (and occasionally throughout the year).

Nothing says “Christmas season” quite like Candy Cane, Sugar Cookies, or Eggnog! Or if you’re looking for a little something different to leave out for Santa this year, how about a bowl of Milk & Cookies? Perhaps a bowl of Carrot Cake for the reindeer? Whether you’re looking for something to share with family and friends or enjoy all by yourself during that midnight snack run, our freezers are always stocked with those classic flavors like Buckeye, Sea Salt Caramel, or Butter Pecan as well.

If you’re one of those folks who puts your tree up after Thanksgiving and enjoys the constant comfort of traditional flavors OR if your tree is up in October and there’s no such thing as too early/too much Christmas - Whit’s has something to help you celebrate this year!

Summer Scenes

Fourth of July, picnics, summer walks, bike rides…let Whit’s be involved in all your summer scenes as you celebrate the season.

We have your summertime favorite flavors including Peach, Lemon Raspberry, and Key Lime, and a few traditional favorites like Buckeye and Birthday Cake to commemorate the Fourth of July. Our freezers are stocked full of easy to grab quarts and cakes to bring to any of your summertime occasions. You can grab a Whittie to eat on the go (try our Blueberry Swirl July Whittie of the month!), or order a custom created Whitser.

And as much as we LOVE our summertime flavors, we are featuring a holiday classic Whit’s Hit in July, our famous Candy Cane Whitser, made with candy cane pieces blended in vanilla frozen custard. You don’t have to wait until December to add a bit of jingle to your summer!

Add Whit’s Hits to your “playlist”

Sugar Cookie Whitser v2-1.png

According to Wikipedia, a “greatest hits” album is a “compilation that collects popular and successful songs from a group or band.” Well, this year, Whit’s is releasing our greatest hits, or what we’re calling “Whit’s Hits”, and you are invited to our official “release party” at your nearest Whit’s Frozen Custard location!

From April through November, we will be offering a monthly “hit” – a special item from our most popular and successful flavor creations. And the first hit on the “Whit’s Hits” playlist is our Sugar Cookie Whitser, our classic vanilla custard blended with delicious, house-baked sugar cookies and rainbow sprinkles. And the good news is it will be available ALL.MONTH.LONG. It may very well become your new favorite!

But don’t go picking a favorite just yet! There are seven more “hits” that will be released throughout the year that you just may end up adding to your regular rotation. Follow us on social media to make sure you don't miss any of our Whit's Hits flavor announcements! We can’t wait to hear what your favorite “hit” is and which one gets added to your regular playlist.

"You have done me a disservice..."

Mt. Vernon blog.png

When an email from a customer starts with “You have done me a disservice,” it is a bit alarming.  But the remainder of the message left the Whit's corporate team relieved...and with a smile on our faces. “You have done me a disservice,” wrote Walt, a regular customer of our Whit’s in Mt. Vernon, “by making such an appetizing website.”  He goes on to say, “And now that I have discovered that I can find the daily flavors that Mt. Vernon Whit’s offers on the website, it is even worse.”

Since this discovery, Walt has become a more frequent visitor to our Mt. Vernon Whit’s, unable to resist getting his Whit’s fix with all the delicious flavor varieties.

“When the local Whit's first opened this year,” shared Walt, “I decided that I would try a scoop of every flavor that they produced. I did not realize how many flavors that they had until I saw the daily calendar.” He added, “Looks like 2021 is going to be a long and flavorful year!”

Sharing the Heart of Whit’s

When the owners of our Newnan Whit’s, Ken and Dianne Parker, opened an insurance agency many years ago in town, they not only wanted to be a part of a community, they also wanted to give back and contribute in some small way to making their community better. “Our steps have been small but have brought smiles to others and joy to us,” Dianne shared. As they discussed opening a Whit’s, they knew they wanted to continue the service they found important so many years ago.

Opening their Whit’s in June 2020, Dianne said, “Has  proven to be a wildly fun adventure - sometimes stressful, often crazy, but just really so much fun!”

As they got into the swing of making custard, they started sharing treats with community educators, the police department and fire fighters. When a relative asked about sharing scoops with the hospital staff, they embraced the challenge. Giving this monumental organization task to their daughter, Bella Grace, proved successful as they quickly organized to deliver 1,000 scoops to Piedmont Newnan Hospital, with the help of a great staff who can, Dianne shared, “Seriously scoop some custard!”

Emotions ran high on delivery day when every single employee from that hospital was given a Whit’s treat. “What really took hold of my heart,” explained Dianne, “was the fact that so many people have spent the past year tirelessly working to keep their community safe, and healthy, and cared for. Our physicians and nurses and countless others have given so much of themselves, sacrificed their own care and time with their families, to take care of the people in their communities.”

If you are a client at their insurance agency or a custard-loving Whit’s fan, “Please know,” Dianne added,  “that you are a wonderful part of all of the service we are able to do in our community. Because without you, it just would not be possible.”

A Sweet Beginning....

At Whit’s, we love our customers, especially when they serve frozen custard at special family events; from birthday parties to weddings, Whit’s has become the traditional treat for many families! We also love to hear our customers’ stories. Here’s one shared by two customers who went to Whit’s on their first date...and served it years later at their wedding! Here is Abbey and Trevor’s story:

wedding 1.jpg

“Our love story is a classic high school sweetheart tale that began when Trevor first said hello to me in the hallway. I was shocked because I didn’t think he knew I existed. He convinced our school librarian to give him my class schedule so he could strategically plan times throughout the day to flirt with me as I walked to class.  The next thing I knew, we were texting and talking everyday, and I was impatiently waiting for him to ask me on a proper date.

Finally, on a cold day in March, Trevor asked me to go to our local ice cream shop -- Whit’s Frozen Custard. Though our date was as simple as eating frozen custard, it was enchanting. We continued dating and growing in love for the next five years and this summer celebrated our marriage. And of course, our wedding celebration would not have been complete without serving Whit’s Frozen Custard at our reception!”

Store Story: Kernersville

Storefront Kernersville.png

Whit’s Frozen Custard. The first time we heard those words, like everyone else in town, we asked “what’s frozen custard?” After the first taste, we didn’t care what was in it...we were hooked. From the first taste of that fabulously fresh product, those three words became household favorites. We were amazed at the variety of toppings that could create any flavor we wanted, and our favorite changed every time we tried the flavor of the week. But our love for Whit’s went beyond the yummy taste.

In Granville, Ohio, we were fortunate to live down the street from the very first Whit’s location. Not only was it the first place we thought of when we wanted dessert, it became a local destination.

Every celebration from birthdays to good report cards to entertaining guests (“Wait ‘til you try Whit’s!”) warranted a trip there.

It was where we went after school activities. It was the first place each of my kids went the first time they were allowed to ride bikes into the village sans parents. It was also the first place fundraisers went looking for donations. Gift cards were expected in Easter baskets every year in anticipation of multiple visits for a summer scoop. Or a float made with soda in glass bottles. It was where the best memories were made. And it was why, after moving from Ohio to North Carolina, I left a lucrative nursing career and opened a Whit’s.

Finding the perfect vacant storefront on our first trek through Kernersville (and greatly missing Whit’s fresh taste) solidified the decision to bring the deliciousness of  Whit’s Frozen Custard to the Piedmont Triad. Emulating the Whit’s in Granville, creating the rare mom and pop shop experience offering a fresh product made on site and excellent customer service was the goal. We’re lucky to be able to serve “smiles in a cup” to our terrific community...and help make memories of their own.

Whit's Response to COVID-19

At Whit’s, we’re grateful to continue serving you “smiles in a cup…or cone! “ during this difficult time. The health and safety of our customers and staff is our utmost concern, and as a result, your experience might be a little different than usual. During this time, we wish to reassure you each location is taking extra precautions and have increased our cleaning and disinfecting measures as per the CDC guidelines for restaurants.  As each location is individually owned and operated, these precautions are being taken in the best interest of the communities they serve.

For a list of the precautions you can expect at your local Whit’s, please contact the location you frequent. We hope you and your family are staying safe and healthy and would like to thank you for your continued loyalty and support, especially during this time.
